Goal Check

January 14th, 2011 | Posted by Kelly Burns Gallagher in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

So with Sunday’s 5K, I finished my first chunk of base work for the 2011 season. The way my plan is set up, I had 12 weeks of base that spanned from October through the beginning of January, 4 weeks of build in January and February and then back to 12 more weeks of base …

Snow Dash 5K

January 9th, 2011 | Posted by Kelly Burns Gallagher in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

I forgot how much 5Ks can hurt. Today was the Snow Dash 5K and I haven’t “run” a 5K in almost two years and I use the word “run” in the loosest possible way. The last time I crossed the finish line of a 5K, I did so in 29 minutes and change — just …

Body Composition as a Limiter

January 5th, 2011 | Posted by Kelly Burns Gallagher in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

My biggest limiter is my body composition. As Coach Doug says I have the body of a swimmer and not of a triathlete. The goal is to get closer to the body of a triathlete without cutting calories so much that it negatively affects my training. The “easiest” way to do this is make sure …

2010 – Year in Review

January 4th, 2011 | Posted by Kelly Burns Gallagher in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

All in all 2010 was pretty good year both triathlon and life wise. For the first time ever in my less than illustrious triathlon career, I started to train consistently. I biked 305 hours, for a total of 5215 miles. I run 152 hours, for a total of 941 miles. I swam 67 hours for …

Bike Fitting

January 1st, 2011 | Posted by Kelly Burns Gallagher in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

On the last day of 2010, Shaun and I ventured to Vermont to get 2011 started off right with a bike fit. We headed up to FitWerx in Waitsfield Vermont (about a three and half hour drive from Connecticut) to be fit by the founder of FitWerx, Ian Buchanan. We brought both my CD.01 and …

As well as FIRMman went, HalfMax totally fizzled. Restrospectively doing a race 6 days after getting married was not the best idea. The week in Las Vegas and then the hurried trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina left me pretty spent and the Vegas desert air aggravated my asthma to no end. To make things …

Breakthrough – FIRMMan Race Report

September 15th, 2010 | Posted by Kelly Burns Gallagher in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

As part of my training for HalfMax I raced at the FIRMman Half in Narragansett Rhode Island. My goal pre-race was to go 5:40:XX and qualify as an age grouper for HalfMax (as an aside I had already qualified as an Athena but wanted to compete as a age grouper, so I needed the 5:40:XX …

I feel like everyone and their three-legged dog with a blind left eye has a “couch-to-athlete” blog detailing the trials and tribulations of going from fat lay about to bona fide triathlete (or marathoner or Ironman or whatever the athletic goal is). I’ve been there, I finished that, I have the medal to prove it. …
