I’m a long time fan and supporter of Oiselle (full disclosure, I run — when I’m not injured — for the Oiselle Volee Team).  This spring Oiselle changed its size structure going from Small – Medium – Large – Extra Large to 2 – 4 – 6 – 8 – 10 – 12.  The new size structure allowed for an additional size and, in my opinion, improved fit across the line.  Since the size changed I have received several questions about how the new sizes fit, especially on someone who is a bit larger than Lauren Fleshman, so I decided to take some measurements and pictures to give those of us who are larger an idea on the new fits.

First things first, my measurements:

Over Bust – 37 inches

Under Bust – 35 inches

Waist – 31 inches

Hips – 41 inches

So, small chest, wide hips and (what’s not shown by these measurements) an ample rear end and quads/thighs.  I have been described as “thick” on several occasions.

Now here’s the official Oiselle size chart.  Based on this chart I should be a size 10.  The only issue that sometimes my wide thighs are too much and I need to size up.  Based on that I ordered several pieces in both size 10 and size 12.

Runway Bra (size 10) and KC Tights (size 10).  Both fit really well in the 10.  On the tights there was a enough fabric so that the rear end was not see through.  The design of the bra itself is super comfortable (I’ve used it for long trainer rides) and the tights stay in place, no slipping.

Lux Short Sleeve Top (Size 10) and Flyte Shorts (Size Large).  Again both fit really well.  The Lux top is super soft and I like the fact that its fairly loose fitting.  Unlike most other items the sizing on the Flyte shorts hasn’t changes (still small – medium – large).  These are the regular Flyte shorts (compared to the long ones).  For comparison purposes my inseam is 33 inches.

Distance Shorts (Pink are Size 12, Green are Size 10) and Verrazano Bra (Size 10).  Distance shorts are my absolute favorite piece by Oiselle.  They’ve been a staple of mine forever.  The pink size 12 shorts were a bit big.  I pulled the draw string as tight as it would go and they were still loose in the waist.  I worry about them staying up while running.  The green size 10 shorts were pretty much a perfect fit.  Fit well in the waist but still plenty of room in the thighs (where shorts often run tight on me).  IMG_3796

Mac Roga Short (Gray Size 10, Pop size 12).  I like short shorts.  The Mac Rogas have a 1.75 inseam (there are also regular and long Rogas with 4 and 6 inch inseams respectively).  Both the 10s and 12s in the Roga were tighter in the thigh than the distance shorts.  Overall the 10 was a better fit due to the waist — the 10 fit well while I used the entire draw string on the 12.  Because of the extra fabric on the 12 they go a little “bunchy” as well.

Stride Short Mini (size 10) and Petal Top (Gray short sleeve top in Size 10) and Airy Tank (Ocean in Size 10).  These shorts are short (2.25 inch inseam) but they fit nicely, cover the rear end and stay in place.  I’m not sure if I’m self confident enough to wear them outside to run, but they work nicely for indoor TRX workouts.  The Petal top is super soft and the accents are in the same material as the Flyer Jacket.  The Airy Tank is made entirely of Flyer Jacket material.  I’m not sure how well its going to breathe, but it looks cute.

This is really helpful – thanks for posting! I have a similar body frame where I’m smaller on the top and bigger in the hips. I find Oiselle to run small all over and I’m always hesitant to buy shorts from them because of my thunder thighs. I have the long Rogas and to me, they don’t seem like they’re a 6″ inseam. But, I think from now on I’ll size another size up. Thanks for your honesty in their 2015 line. 🙂

I would try the distance shorts. They work really well for those of us who have more ample hips and because they’re cut generously through the thigh they wear longer than the inseam might suggest.

This is awesome, Kelly. Thanks for sharing. I haven’t purchased anything in the new sizing yet, but this gives me a great frame of reference!

I cannot tell you how helpful I found this post. I am a big Oiselle fan and have stuck with medium. I read your review from a while back before ordering a kit from Coeur and made the right sizing choice so this will prove to be very helpful too for my future Oiselle orders. I have never been a fan of shorts but perhaps I will give the distance shorts a try.
Thank you!!!!!

The distance are my favorite. Reviewing the new Coeur kits and the differences in sizing is on my list of blog posts as well. I think it helps to have a non-model person show how the clothes fit.

Could you tell us what sizes you were in old sizing? Particularly for rogas and distance shorts!

Kelly Burns Gallagher · March 17, 2015 at 5:25 am

In bottoms I was always a large although the roga legs were a bit snug in the old sizing. In tops I was almost always a large. Occasionally I would be a medium in bras but 95% of the time a large.

I stumbled on the today and you my dear are a sent from God! I have some Oiselle tanks and shorts and love them. Our measurements are the same including the ridiculous 33″ inseam and it’s so nice to see how the new sizing works out! Thanks for the info and pictures!

Oh and I have a Coeur Tri kit as well! Love it!

Kelly Burns Gallagher · March 17, 2015 at 7:35 am

Doing a review of the new Coeur kits is on my list as well. I think the 2015 versions fit even better than the 2014 versions.

Super helpful! I love the Distance shorts too!

Lisa · March 17, 2015 at 9:38 am

Hi Kelly,
I saw that you’re working on a review of the Coeur kits, which I LOVE by the way. We have a very similar body type (big booty girls unite:) and almost exactly the same measurements. I was just curious which size Coeur tri shorts you find most comfortable, particularly in the new kits?
Thanks!!
Lisa

I wear a large in the new kits for both top and bottom. If it makes sense the new fabric is a little “stiffer” so the shorts stay up on the waist and stay in places on the thighs really well.

kate · March 17, 2015 at 10:58 am

Thank you for your review. The detail and comparisons are great appreciated!

bikelola · March 17, 2015 at 11:35 am

Kelly, thank you for the post! Do you wear the bras for running? I’m a 34D, and their bras have never been enough support for sleeping, much less running.

Kelly Burns Gallagher · March 17, 2015 at 1:13 pm

I do. I find the Runway bra and (especially) the Verrazano to be the best/most compressive. The extra straps on the Verranano really help.

Awesome write-up!

Love this! Thank you for doing this fabulous fit review! I love Oiselle but have to order from Canada and often don’t because of being concerned about sizing. This really put the sizing in perspective.

shannon Marrs · March 20, 2015 at 8:54 am

I’m sorry if this is a repeat but how tall are you? I measure the same in bust and hips as you but I’m only 5′ tall so it does tend to be a difference

Paulette · March 26, 2015 at 12:00 am

I’m loving the new sizing on rogas because I like the shorts but had found the leg holes to be snug. Now they are great! Also, you inspired me to try the Mac Rogas. I was never sure because of my leg/hip size, but they look great on you! Mine came today and I’m pumped!

I sent this to a few of my femaile friends and they said thanks for the info! enjoy your new clothes
