Every year the Hartford Track Club charters a bus to the Boston Marathon for approximately 55 runners and spectators. We drop the runners off in Hopkinton and then meet then at the Loews Boston Hotel after the race so they can shower and change before heading home. On April 15, 2013 at 2:49 I was sitting by the window of the Hartford Track Club’s room in the hotel, about a block from the finish line of the Boston Marathon, when I heard and felt an explosion. At first we thought that maybe a cannon had gone off at the finish line or perhaps a transformer had exploded, but then we saw people start running down Stuart Street away from the finish line. After frantically searching Twitter, we learned that an explosion had gone off at the finish line and we had not accounted for two of our runners. After several hours of searching, we finally located all of our runners and were able to walk through the eerily quiet streets of Boston back to our bus to head home. The Boston Marathon bombings had a pretty huge impact on me. To raise funds for Boston One Fund, in June of 2013, I led stage 300 of the One Run for Boston, a 3000 plus mile relay from Los Angeles to Boston. It was an AWESOME experience and I will be leading the same again in 2014.
I am trying to be creative to raise $1000 for the One Run for Boston, I’m working on some unique fundraising ideas and here’s my first: I have more gently used training clothes than anyone I know (I buy lots of things, they don’t work for me and then I accumulate them). Below are 9 collections of clothes (numbered 1 through 9) all of which are gently used, some of which were never worn and many of which were only worn once. If you would like a collection, its your for free, just leave a comment as to which one you would like and e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your address and I’ll ship it out. Shipping is on me, and only one collection per person.
All I ask that you do in return is make a donation to my One Run for Boston page if you are able to do so (every dollar counts!) and if you are not able to donate, help spread the word about One Run for Boston through your social media accounts (social media influence is capital too!).
