It’s Wednesday March 23 and I’m in my fourth straight week of building before a rest week. Normally I have three higher volume weeks followed by a rest week but because the Hyannis Half did not fit perfectly in this schedule, I ended up with a three week block before Hyannis and now am making my way through a five week block. Normally week 3 of 4 is tough, but week 4 or 5 feels much, much harder. To make things even more difficult I have 21 hours of training scheduled for this week — my largest week since last summer.

I’m usually really good at absorbing training, recovering well and coming back for more, but this week I’m just tired. Sitting at my desk at work all I can think about is whether I can leave early just to take a nap or maybe just close my door and put my head on my desk. My brain is fine, my body is just exhausted and I have a fairly bad case of “leg flu” — unfortunately compression tights are inappropriate for the office.

This morning I ran almost 10 miles at an 8:50 per mile pace (and felt like I was dragging the entire time) and the thought of having to walk to the gym and swim 3000 yards this afternoon is almost over whelming. To make matters worse, its snowing and the forecast for three of the next five days also calls for snow, so not only do I have lots of training, I have lots of indoor training.

Here’s what’s on tap:

Today – 10 mile run this morning, 3000 yard swim this afternoon
Thursday – 1:04 Z1 Bike, Strength, Massage, Another 1:04 Z1 Bike
Friday – 2700 yard swim and 1:15 ZR ride
Saturday – 4:37 Z1 Bike (all on the trainer as its supposed to be cold and snowy) and 1:00 Z1 Run
Sunday – 1:35 Z1 Run, 1:30 Tabata Bike and 1300 yard swim

Hopefully I’ll be able to find some extra nap time in there as well. Rest week will be good and hopefully this volume will pay off at the Danbury Half.
